Artist Statement
“I paint with oil on canvas, “hard edge abstract.” I connect shapes to shapes and color to color, sometimes creating paintings within paintings. The work reflects years of masonry and stone restoration with a sense of structural engineering that avoids the obvious, creating a work that is challenging but ultimately comforting.
I enjoy the freedom and lack of influence other paintings or artists have on me. There are ongoing decisions to be made and mine are constructed with complete confidence.
I work with straight edge tools in a detached studio that allows me the spontaneity I need to create at all hours. Music is always on and influences my work. The combination of colors and transparent planes are arranged so that the eye moves constantly across the painting’s surface, inducing a heightened poetic or lyrical consciousness affected by my favored music.
I like Law and Order and Lenny Bruce and am thankful to be an artist in a free country.
Chris Daubert is my inspiration. In 2019 he stated “these works are the product of hard work, years of dedicated practice and the artist’s drive to achieve something that is beyond merely possible”. He also said he couldn’t teach me anything. He was the best!”
